Hotmail won't load, Can't access hotmail account
Hi,

Any page on the internet works for me except for hotmail.com. Hotmail won't load, I can't access hotmail account. It seems as though it loads up, but then just appears blank. also when I use messenger and click on Mail it won't open up it just keeps showing a blank page. However, when I do it takes me to a page that says to enter my password and re-agree to all the privacy statement. I'm on a wireless connection, but it won't load when I plug straight into my wireless port either. Please help.

This is a big problem at the moment, which i have had myself ,but have located the fix for it.Try uninstalling and reinstalling it . Run a spyware program and make sure you dont have any viruses.

Check your IE Security settings -- open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section, and verify that "Check for server certificate revocation" is unchecked. Also verify that 'Use SSL 2.0' and Use SSL.

You need to clear your IE cache and cookies, open Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then click the Delete Files button, and when that's complete click the Delete Cookies button.

This morning, and at several other times in the past, I was not able to access my inbox in Hotmail. During those times, though, I was able to access hotmail folders through their mobile.live.com which is for mobile devices.

You can, however, access that mobile.live.com though Firefox by spoofing.

When in firefox install the add-on "Modify Headers" which is available at
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/967/

Then, after you restart Firefox you would go to Tools and click on "Modify Headers" to open its configuration window

As far as I know that the LAN Optimizer also monitor entire Internet or network bandwidth, thus allowing the overall management intelligence as well as bandwidth optimization. The best tthing is you can manually set the network speed if preferred. Actually I don't use those or any free bundled programs that offered with motherboards. It is not only about Gigabyte. Sometimes those bundled software don’t work well and often more issues rather than they fix. I have never used the GIGABYTE LAN Optimizer but I do hope that it will do some interesting things on your network or internet connections.

Populating a timesheet in excel thats works standard and normal hours from a daily hour i.e. 12 hours worked, 7.2 hours standard anything over is overtime.

Currently using the following formulaes:

STANDARD HOURS =MIN(Sheet1!G13,7.2)

OVERTIME HOURS =MAX(0,Sheet1!G13-7.2)

Overtime seems to work fine, but I am finding that if a cell has no data entered (as they haven't worked that day) the standard hours formula is still returning 7.2

Is there anyway I can have it that if G13 was blank the formula would return 0?

I will be offering 5 styles of rooms (Small to Large) that can house 1-5 people respectively. (Column B23 - Column B33 provides a drop down list of Suite Types 1-5)
I have another column (Columb C23-C33) that provides a drop down list to allow the selection of whether the rooms are Window Facing or Internal rooms. The rent for a Window Facing unit will be 30% more than Internal Units.
I have listed down the Internal Rack Rate of rooms for Suite 1 to 5 in Column E11 to E15

HELP WITH: By inputing (through the drop down menus) the selection of (a) Suite Type (Colm B) and (b) Window/NonWindow (Colm C), I am hoping to be able to automate the Rent in Column E23-E33

I would be MUCH helped with any advice ...

As per the error code, it seems to me that it is a hardware problem, test the ram and see if it gives any error, also if a video card is installed check if its fan are not spinning properly or so which might be the culprit.

I do not be familiar with perhaps your internet correlation. Most often its because of the macros are not able to be converted. Microsoft doesn't guarantee that the converter will work in all instances. If it doesn't, there isn't much you can do - other than (in Excel 2007) do a Save As and select an earlier version of Excel in which to save the file. If xls format is working fine then you don't need to worry for anything, use it.

I believe I saw that error when I saved a file programmatically using the wrong syntax. Might that be the problem? In my case, it's either a password protected file.

1.- Uninstall Microsoft Office
2.- Install Open Office

But, if you are not sure, you can avoid the first step and go direct to the second.

I am trying to upload PDF flyers on my website but the problem is it cannot be displayed to web browsers. Now i want to upload swf flyers made from Flashpaper, Can any one tell me the mime type for SWF. Any recommendations and suggestions are appreciated.

Macromedia Flash Player movies (SWFs) can be served from just about any web server. The only requirement is that the proper MIME type (Multi-Purpose Internet Mail Extensions) for SWFs be configured on the web server.

MIME provides a way for non-text information to be encoded as text. AddType specified you are adding a new mime type (file type). application/ x-shockwave-flash is the actual mime parameter specs. swf is the extension of the file type.

I realize this thread is ancient, but for the sake of people who end up here with a Google search, I'd like to clear up a few statements here that aren't quite right.

While it is true that MIME types originated to describe content types for data sent in email, they are now used in a very wide array of places. The most important use is for web servers to tell web browsers the type of data that is found at a particular URL.

So HTML, for example, is text/html.

Note that this has nothing to do with encoding binary data as text. That is handled separately. The MIME type describes the type of data once it has been decoded. For example, image/jpeg. Encoding as text for transport in email is described by the Content-Transfer-Encoding field, not the MIME type. It's not done at all for the web; instead the HTTP protocol provides Content-Encoding: header, which is used to describe binary compression rather than expansion into text.

vishodhan's information is correct, and JonathanD provided the procedure for the Apache web server, if that's the server you're using.

I just wanted to clear up the confusion about MIME types themselves.

Right now I am own HD Webcam C310 which is installed on Windows 7. The Logitech software for webcam showing me some kind of error when I try to upload photos to Facebook. I know that I have installed the software properly and I logged in as Admin. The loading shows 100% completed but then suddenly prompts an error message saying:

The Facebook can access to my webcam. Is there any help?

It seems to me that the software is not interacting with software properly and due to this it is getting error. You will once again need to check whether the webcam software can access the FAcebook account or not. Also make sure that you are logged in your account. You have said that you can access the webcam from Facebook but it doesn’t mean that the software can access your Facebook account without any issues.

Once I had the same problem and Facebook was keep on showing the error when uploading the images to Facebook. The upload status shows 1000% but then the same error. I didn’t use any other format images other than JPGs assuming that it could be the problem but nothing helped me. No help from the Logitech side yet.

I have called the Logitech customer service regarding the same issue but they told me that you have to re-install the application by wiping out all previous drivers and other webcam software installed in the computer. If there is 2 webcams and you have installed both, then drivers could make confliction. Best thing is to install Logitech only and wipe out all other. There are different webcam software available from the Logitech side and you have find which one is compatible for your C310 HD Webcam.

I have been trying to install the Logitech QuickCam SphereAF but couldn’t succeed yet. My system is running Windows XP professional SP3 and I have installed the latest driver v11.10.2030. The installation progress is now asking to connect the new Logitech device. I have connected the device and device is recognized by windows because I can notice it clearly in windows since it is showing USB device detected and read to use. But the Logitech QuickCam Sphere AF installation wizard stuck at “waiting for connection” message. What is the problem here?

Can you see any button on the setting wizard window where you are getting “waiting for connection” message? Is there any button like “next” button? If you are getting any problem with installing Logitech webcam, then you might need to re-install the drivers. If you have any luck, then you can easily Windows will easily recognize and install the device.

As I have seen that there is no NEXT button when the process stuck at “waiting for connection”. The only button I can see is “skip” button which is highlighted. I tried pressing on that button and then the system installs Drivers and then windows opens quickcam saying Logitech is running and it need to install drivers. But due to this error Sphere MP does not recognized.

As far as I know that Logitech offers you a very easy way and support for finding new drivers for webcams or other components. You just need to know the exact product name and model number if necessary and you can download it freely. If you have connected the webcam and if it is still not connected then you should see a small pop up saying that adding hardware. Click on it to start the wizard and go after the instructions. However if your webcam already came with Driver CD, use that CD only instead of downloading and installing drivers.

I had the same problem and for that reason I have called HP tech support and but they didn’t help me. Actually the manufacture is not HP for this thin client, it was actually DisplayLink. So for that reason the HP doesn't list the drivers. I had looked all over the HP site and got nowhere. But when I looked into the DisplayLink , they had the most current drivers for the HP t100 thin client

I have found the t100 driver on somewhere else but no under where it have to be. Actually the driver is posted under MS6000 which is the model of the HOST/Desktop.. I am pretty sure that it would be the compatible driver.

I have configured wnos.ini so as it can auto launch a XenDesktop session when any user login. The fact is, it works fine sometimes but sometimes not. Sometimes it shows error message saying that 'connection reset by peer'. If there is any error, then user have to manually launch the XenDesktop session through the Citrix client which is embedded within the Windows 7. I would like to see auto login but I didn’t find any solution yet.

I was really confused about how to configure the License Server VPX appliance as Autostart. I think that it is the feature of vApp features and settings. But in GUI, you will not get any option to enable the auto start feature. I thought that just creating and configuring the vApp will allow me to enable the auto start but I think it won’t now.

I tried this new application which had updated to v1.3. I did notice some bug fixes and it Added AUTOPRD function. Do you what this function is?

AUTOPRD function will allow every user who is using this app to save PRD - MEP combination from all phones from where they read code. So this way the user can create a personal database. This database will then helpful to calculate codes based on PRD. But for that there should be saved MEP and PRD codes.

First one is Bulk IMEI Calculator support
User can manually add PRD - MEP combination to PRD database.

The applications were updated and some extra features were added after lots of request from users since this is really easy to implement.

Bulk IMEI Calculator Format is very simple. You only need to collect and add as many IMEIS as to a simple text file based on ONE IMEI PER LINE. Make sure that each and every IMEIS correspond to same MEP.

Manually update of PRD - MEP to database for calculation is very useful and don’t think that there will be repetition of codes since even of you enter the same PRD twice, the application will not save it twice.

Do you have any issue while the internet on your Wii because I think you have issue with the connection itself and so therefore you’re getting the issue? Ok through the below steps on your router and after that your issue will get solved:

On browser type: IP address to access router's administration console.
Now while doing this you will prompt to enter the password to access network settings.
Look for the DNS server settings are specified.
Type IP address for Primary and secondary DNS servers as specified below:
Google IP addresses: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.
Now once you fished this save the setting and restart the browser.

I don’t think that it is possible to do the same because even I had thought of customizing it but then I have not yet got any success, I have addressed this requirement to them using the Send Feedback from the help menus but then have not yet received a response for the same ,I had found a guy mentioning a solution where he had used a VBA Event macros but then it was not actually helpful. I really don’t think that it is possible within the MacXL's user interface.

I am not very sure that it is possible to duplicate the mac status bar as that of the windows but then I think that you can customize the status Bar and in order to do so just follow the below steps:

First open the excel and then go in to Menu > Toolbars > Customize Toolbars and Menus after that just check out the list on right side of the window and after that just drag the status bar and then format it as you want to
While doing this also make sure that the formatting is shown as well in order to avoid duplication of the commands

Customizing it in this way is possible but then I don’t think that there is a solution to customize it in the way you are willing to.

Yes even I was going to say the same, I have found that Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 is a direct port of the OfficePC 2007/2010 but then here some of the features have not been added as per the MS Corporate Decisions, so I don’t think that it will be possible to customize it as per your desire until the mac comes up with the same.

I completely agree to you, I mean that it is not possible to Status Bar the only thing that you can do for the Status Bar in Excel for mac is just switching it on or off and enabling and disabling the AutoCalculate feature, the solution that you have mentioned above is for customizing the Toolbars and Menus and not for the status bar, and if you are saying that it is because of the decision from the corporate and all then I would like to see the source, in order to believe the same.

I have two WSUS servers - both Server 2003 R2 running WSUS. The first one is connected to the Internet and works without problems. The second is in a secure area with no Internet connection. The only obvious difference between the two, apart from the Internet connection, is that the offline server has its files on a seperate drive (W:\WSUS) and with the online one they are on the local drive (C:\WSUS).

I have copied all of the files from the WSUSContent directory and copied them to the equivalent directory on the offline machine - being careful not to copy the WSUScontent directory itself having read the warnings on this and other sites about permissions. I performed an export from the online server and import on the offline and all patches are shown but are marked as "File not yet downloaded" Fie details can be checked and files are in the correct place amd can be seen in the IIS directories. I have wiped the install and repeted the process with great care, but still cannot make any progress on this.

Any help would be VERY gratefully received!

You have to click on the minus sign at the start of the Resource name if you want to hide that person's tasks in the report; click on the plus sign if you want to show the resource's tasks in the report. Run the report. In the report you will still see a single line with just the resource's name even if you have hidden the tasks for that resource.

Same problem was occurred with me also and after that I have first thought that problem is with the application setting in my computer but that does not help me to solve this problem. now after that I have tried to solve this problem by reinstalling the Intel application with no luck.

After trying so many thing I have come to know that I have to disable it from windows configuration utility and then I have open window configuration utility and then I have disabled Intel application from there and then when I restart my computer at that time I didn’t get any problem. you should also try this solution.

I am using windows XP in my Sony laptop. I have downloaded and installed Microsoft Office 2007 in my laptop. This is really nice application. But now I have problem with the Office 2007. I inserted mp4 video in my presentation but now Office 2007 is unable to play this video. I am disappointed with the Office 2007. What is the reason for this problem? Advice would be very welcome please.

Mp4 videos ran smoothly on the Mac operating system in my apple laptop. No issue related to the Mp4 videos. This means Office 2007 supports Mp4 videos. So according to me there is problem of your operating system .

We cannot embed an mp4 video in Microsoft office 2007. If you want to run mp4 video then it must be linked. The link must be available in your computer. So check for the link in your computer then try to run mp4 video in your laptop.

It looks like Quicktime application is not available in your laptop. Quicktime application is very useful to play mp4 videos in your laptop. So download Quicktime player in your computer from official site and install it in your laptop. Hope this will help you to solve your problem.

Thank you very much for the solution but your solution not works for me. I have downloaded and installed Quicktime player in my laptop. Now When I try to run Mp4 video then only black screen displayed on the screen. This is very annoying and I am unable to figure out a way. Please help me. Any more advices are also appreciated.

There are many video converter applications are available to download on internet. Download any good video converter and install it in your computer. Then Convert that Mp4 video in Windows Media Video (wmv) format. This format runs smoothly in Microsoft office 2007.

You have to check whether you are getting sound while playing any other videos from iTunes or not? If you are facing problem while playing other videos in iTunes also then it means problem is with iTunes otherwise something else is causing this problem.

You have to try this solution to fix this problem, first you have to open iTunes in your computer and after opening the iTunes you have to redownload the podcast and after doing that also you have to check whether same problem is occurring or not. I think aft trying this solution your problem will get solved. If after trying this solution also same problem occurred then you have to also check whether that videos open correctly in quicktime player or not?

According to me something went wrong while converting the videos. I was also having same problem. I have first uploaded my FLV videos on YouTube which worked correctly and then I have converted the videos in MOV format with the help video converter but after converting the videos I was having similar problem and then I have converted the videos with the help of AVS4You to convert and after that uploaded videos again and then problem get solved. I

I have read your problem and first I will suggest you to try basic solution and check whether it helps you to fix this or not. You have to right click on the ITunes and then you have to click on run as administrator option and after clicking on that you have to check whether you are getting same problem or not?

Many times with the help of this simple solution also problem gets solved.

Well according to me you should try to solve this problem by doing winsock reset in your computer and after doing winsock reset in your computer your problem will get solved. I am telling you this because I was also having similar issue and after that I have done winsock reset and then my problem gets solved. To reset the winsock in your computer you have to follow these steps. First you have to open start menu in your computer and then you have to write command prompt in your start menu search box and then you have to press enter key. Now after that you have to type netsh winsock reset and then press enter key. Now after doing that you have to restart your computer and after restarting the PC if you see any notification regarding remapping LSP then you have to click on no. after doing that start iTunes and then see what the result is.

I want to know if there is any option for smoothing lines in Gimp 2.6. Gimp 2.6 slows the mouse pointer so the user can draw smooth lines. In chicken Smoothie, I get option where I can smooth the jagged lines based on percentage. It automatically clears the jagged lines to create smooth lines.

Gimp 2.6 does not provide smoothing option.First thing, Gimp is not a drawing application, but it is image manipulation software.Gimp 2.6 is the latest version which is stable. Smoothing options are available in Gimp 2.7. But Gimp 2.7 is currently under development, so expect the version you get to have bugs.

There are other drawing applications available like MyPaint for drawing raster Images and Inkscape for drawing Vector Images.
Inkscape provides smoothing using calligraphic brush tools.

The latest version of Inkscape, that is Inkscape has bugs which doesn’t allow it to work with pen tablets. Using older version like Inkscape 0.48 might help. Gimp 2.8 which has yet not released will have the smoothing options in brush dynamics.

I am using Photoshop. I have 2 layers. When I change their positions from default, the color from one layer starts affecting another layer.
The bottom layer has more of Red color in it and the top layer is a basic image. But when I interchange their position a red tint appears over the image layer.

Every level in Photoshop has blend modes. These blend modes are seen in a drop box at top of panel with ‘Normal’ selected by default. By changing it one can get various different effects in their image. I suggest you to change the blend mode of your layers to normal to avoid the red tint problem.

The Normal Mode does not let layers interact. It sets color to their full values to 1. The other blending modes are Dissolve, Darken, Multiply, Color Burn, Linear Burn, Lighten, Screen, Color Dodge, Linear Dodge, Overlay, Soft light, Hard Light, Vivid Light, Linear Light, Pin Light Difference, Exclusion, Hue, Saturation, Color & luminosity.

There is difference between special effects and visual effects. Special effects are created using make-up, controlled explosions or Squirting blood using pipes. These does not always need softwares. Special effects can be seen in movies like Final Destination. The blood squirting & Explosions are generated using real materials close to real ones.

If you want to apply such effects using softwares, then they are classified as Visual Effects. They are generated using softwares. They can be seen in Final Destination 5. The blood and Explosions is computer generated and not real.

While selecting the wall avoid selecting hair. If there are too many loose strands, then you can try to cover them with ambient colors using patch tool or clone stamp tool. You can also try using alpha layers for more accuracy.

If the wall in background has a constant color all over without any change in pattern or color, one can also use Magic wand tool or try selecting the color range.

Editing a real photo requires more than changing color. One has to maintain the shadows and reflections of any object. If you are coloring the wall such that it affects the shadows and reflections on wall, it will obviously give sketchy effects.

Once the desired object, in your case, try coloring it with brush set to hue mode. This maintains the shadows and reflections and also changes the desired color.

I am a beginner at using Photoshop. I was trying various filters to get effects. During one such research I found a filter by name liquify. I tried using it but couldn’t understand how to play with its attribute value to get a good effect. I need help understanding what its attributes do when their value are changed.

Liquify filter lets user create distortions in part of image to create an artistic effect. Using Liquify filter user can push, pull, reflect, rotate, distort or bloat areas of an image. liquify filter can be found under Filter tab. Shortcut for Liquify filter is Shift+Ctrl+x. Liquify filter can be used in face retouching. It can also be used to push in the unwanted bulges on an object.

The Liquify filter has many attributes which can be manipulated to achieve artistic effects on an image. The attributes of an Liquify filter areŞ

1) warp: this works similar to smudge tool. It pulls or pushes the pixels in which user wants. This may cause loss in sharpness of the affected part of an image.
2) Turbulence: This attribute creates a distortion in selected area. Not much useful unless used for abstract art.
3) Twirl: This attribute creates swirls of pixels in selected area. It has values to create twirls in clockwise and Anti-clockwise direction.
4) Bloat: This attribute works like the spherize filter. It enlarges the area by spreading the pixels at the center of selected area. This can be used to give a spherical effect to the image.
5) Shift Pixel tool: It relocates blocks of pixels in selected area. It works similar to warp.

I am creating a brick texture for the 3D model of a building. The bricks are of sandstone color but the spacing between bricks is darker than the bricks. I want them to be of equal contrast. How can I select the sandstone color altogether and edit it.

You can try selecting sandstone colored bricks by using selection of a color range.Click on Select on the tab, select Color Range. In the Color range selection mode use the color picker to select the sandstone color. Once you have selected the color, use brush on Hue mode and color the selected area with desired color.

You can follow similar steps for changing the color of the spaces between bricks. But according to your question, the spaces being dark won’t be affected much by Brush on Hue mode.

You can also try editing it with Brightness and contrast or Use Color saturation to bring colors on equilibrium.

I searched in the Google intending to find out method to retrieve deleted photo from hard drive. After complete search I got best solution for this i.e. EasesUS Data Recovery Wizard impressed me most because there were many editors of websites recommended it. After that I decided to download this particular demo version software after doing this I got the deleted photo from partition.

Step involve to retrieve the deleted photoŞ

Step A: Launch the software, and choose the module according to the reason for JPG photo loss."Deleted File Recovery" is for deletion restore, "Complete Recovery" is for format restore, and "Partition Recovery" is for photo recovery when partition is lost or corrupted.

Step B: After that select the file type you want to recover. If you want to recover all types of file so you have to click all.

Step c:Choose the volume where there were photos and click "NEXT" to start searching, and then we will see a list of volumes where photos loss possibly happens. After that, Data Recovery Wizard will allow you to choose 4 volumes at best to recover. And then, press "NEXT" button, it will launch the "Building Directory" procedure to search the photos. You will see file/folder tree very soon.

Step d: Choose the photo you want to preview and then click next button. And then select the directory and press the “next button” to save the deleted photo.

I would suggest you that first of all you should uninstall the flash player which you had installed. If you are not able to uninstall you can uninstall by using following steps mentioned here.

After that reboot your System. Again download the flash player by using this link.Create a folder on your desktop and in that folder save it. After than run .exe file.

I would suggest you that use adobe flash player 10 but video freezes quite often.I’m also having the same configuration of pc let me tell you one thing if you use flash player 8,9 you won’t be able to launch.

I have Windows XP by default and recently I have been facing problem to download lan driver. I tried it downloading from different websites including the official websites. When I click download the download starts and runs for a second and stops before downloading it. let me know if you are having specific solution to solve the matter of mine.
If your problem is still unsolved after changing the browser settings then you must have installed some important software because of which you are facing this kind of troubleshooting. You should perform system restore so that the software which you have uninstalled, restore back to its point and if there is any settings change then your settings will be restored. Try selecting the furthest restoring point where you think it was working fine. After performing restore, download you lan driver and install.
First check that you can download other things from internet other than lan driver. I think you have some problem related to browser settings. Because of this improper settings you are facing this kind of problems. Try changing your browser settings and in that download option. The setting option depends upon what browser you use. Check the instruction in help option of your browser for assistance. I am sure after changing this download settings your problem will be solved and you can download your lan driver then install it successfully.

If you did not get any help from the steps then you have to reset your modern factory settings. By resetting it to factory settings the problem will be solved. Reset the modem using manual and if you don’t have manual then turn off the computer and then reset it. There should be a tiny button or hole in the back of the modem that will be labeled reset. See it seems like they are associated with the google chrome browser only, and I would say this is not a good practice to close any program from the task manager as you should wait till it get close by the explorer itself. Have you checked that this files runs ever after closing the chrome? If yes then it might be some virus that is running. How to make more than 1 copy using IMG burn?

I am using the IMG burn from long time, but now I am wishing to make a data disk or make it through “write files folders to disk” getting the source of the folder from the hard drive. I am wishing to make more than one copy of it. I don’t know how to put the number of copies, if I am wishing to burn more than one copy using my IMG burn. So can anyone help me so that I can make more than 1 copy?

When you open the IMG burn program, you will find many of the option that you wish to burn. Just click on the write files/folders to disc. After selecting it, your another window will open. In the source select the location of your files that you have currently. On the right hand side, you can see multiple tabs. Select the device tab from it. at the bottom you will find settings option, where you will have two option write speed and copies. Select the number of copies you want and then burn it.

It’s not of much difficult to make more than 1 copy of your desired files and folders or images. There is something that you should do in the settings while you are writing the folders in the disk. All you need to do is you have to open the IMG burn to change the settings for your copies. In the IMG burn select write files/folders to disc. Once it is done go on to the device tab, at the bottom of it you will find the number of copies. Set the number of you copies you desire.

As it is possible for IMG Burn to copy more than 1 copy but to do so, you will have to follow the 2 steps which are manual. First, from the disk you have to create the image. Further you can make the changes in the number of copies. Once you set the number of copies for the session then, when you start the program it is set to the number that is lastly allocated. Skype 5.3 is crashing with Windows XP SP3

Hey guys I am using Windows XP SP3 in my computer. I had installed Skype 5.3 in it. The issue is that the Skype crashes at the start up. I tried getting support from the Skype, but it’s not of any use. i had also done lots of searching in Google but dint find any solutions till now. i was not facing this issue when i was using the precious version of Skype, i am only experiencing since i had updated to the latest version of Skype. I am facing the same problem that you have mentioned. I am also using the same version of Skype 5.3 but instead of SP3 I am using SP2. I got the issue fixed. What I did was, I uninstalled the Skype and then installed the latest version, but I found the issue of crashing. So what I did is, I deleted all the cache files of the Skype and then quitted the Skype application. And then rebooted my system and then started Skype, and the Skype created a new cache file and running it without any problem.
When I was facing the issue I was afraid that it might be because of some virus or a bug in the system. So I tried making a complete system scan but I didn’t find any virus or a worm. I informed about this issue to my friend, he said that once he also experienced the same issue so he deleted the shared.XML file from the Skype folder. Even I tried to remove the shared.XML file and then the issue seems to be solved for me.
If you don’t know from where to delete the shared.xml file then follow the steps mentioned below:
• If you are running the Skype then close it.
• Down at the system tray you will find the Skype icon.
• Right click on the icon and then select Quit.
• Make sure that you have enabled view hidden files and folders.

Aperture: arranging photos of a slideshow

'm considering buying Aperture. This might be a dumb question, but I've read how Aperture can sort photos using face recognition, GPS location, dates, etc. What I would like to do is to sort photos by date initially, and then do some rearrangements using a mouse. The trouble with some software that I have been using, is that the rearrangements are not saved. One has to resort to using tags or renaming, but this is tedious. Can one, in a simple way, get Aperture to leave one's manual rearrangements intact?

My question was whether in would preserve manual alterations. For example, say one got Aperture to sort a set of photos by date, and then, using a display of the icons of the sorted set, switched two of the photos by dragging them from their positions with the mouse. If one then exited Aperture, and later invoked it again, would the display of icons be in exactly the order it was when Aperture was exited, or would it have been put back into pure date sequence. I assume in this that a slideshow would display the photos in the same order as the display of their icons.

All you need to do is simply hit V twice to get to the Browser view, or click the Browser icon on the toolbar, and you’ll jump to the Browser mode, where you can rearrange slides without a transition viewer. When you’re done, just hit V again to jump back to the Split View. I hope that this information helps you out sorting the issue.

Google Video to halt video uploading

According to a 14 january 2009 post on the official google video blog, google will shortly discontinue support for uploads to google video. google says that they are not removing any content already on the service, just disallowing the uploading of any new content.

google says that those who wish to upload content to them, should use youtube or picasa web albums -- although its unclear if youtube's current 10 minute and 1gb time and file size restrictions will be changed. currently, videos uploaded to picasa web albums must be no larger than 100 mb.

UPDATE: according to 'the blog herald:' "blogger video uploads are not affected."
videos uploaded directly to a blogspot post (which are ultimately hosted on google video) are limited to 100mb. it's unknown right now if that file size will be increased.

Intego has discovered a new Trojan horse, OSX.Trojan.iServices.A, which is currently circulating in copies of Apple's iWork 09 found on BitTorrent trackers and other sites containing links to pirated software. The version of iWork 09, Apple's productivity suite, are complete and functional, but the installer contains an additional package called iWorkServices.pkg.

When installing an infected pirated copy of iWork '09, an extra iWorkServices package is installed; this installation begins as soon as the user launches the iWork '09 installer. This package is installed as a system-wide startup item, where it has read-write permissions as root. In other words, this code can do anything to any part of the system, with full authorization.

The malicious software connects to remote servers over the internet, so a malicious remote user will know that the program has been installed. The malicious user will be able to connect to the infected Mac and perform various actions; the Trojan horse may also download additional components to an infected Mac.

This is not a virus—it cannot spread from one Mac to another on its own. It's also not a remote exploit; the user must download and install a pirated copy of iWork '09 to become infected. Intel's Core 2 Quad Q9650 processors are now priced at US$316 (Rs. 15,500), a 40 percent drop from December. Other Core 2 Quad chip prices were cut between 16 percent and 20 percent. The quad-core chips are used in high-end desktops like gaming systems.

Intel's move could be a response to increasing price pressure exerted by rival Advanced Micro Devices, which recently announced the Phenom II quad-core chips for high-end desktops. AMD has priced its Phenom II quad-core chips between $235 (Rs. 11,515) and $275 (Rs. 13,475).

Intel also cut prices of its Xeon chips for servers and Celeron processors for mobile devices by up to 48 percent. The quad-core Xeon 3370 is now priced at $316 (Rs. 15,500), a 40 percent drop from December, while the Celeron 570 chip was cut by 48 percent from $134 (Rs. 6,566) to $70 (Rs. 3,430).

Microsoft has gone out and issued a statement saying that this won't be a different version of Windows 7 made specifically for netbooks, but it still hasn't clarified what version it really is. In any case, if it performs well on the PCs specced Microsoft is looking to test, with 1GHz of processing power, 1GB of RAM, 16 GB of available disk space and Internet access, then it should be good for existing netbooks and all those to come in the future.

Steve Ballmer, who just announced to the troops that Microsoft was firing 5,000 employees due to the recession, might be excused for wanting to slam his head against the wall at this point.

After reporting quarterly earnings, Google finished Friday up more than $18. So at this point, at least, it's still Google 1, Recession 0. The cool kids have the upper hand--at least for the time being.

I'm the last to suggest that Google is immune to the drag of an economic slowdown. Everyone these days is obviously tightening their belts, and Google is no exception. The company let go of 100 contractors and recently ordered three projects shut down as cost-savings measures. (How long before more money losers get dumped?)

In the meantime, however, Google's advertising business held up remarkably well in the fourth quarter, all things considered. Even though the economy headed south, Google's paid clicks increased 18 percent in the fourth quarter compared with the same period a year earlier.

Google's quarterly earnings beat Wall Street forecasts as strong advertising sales on its self-branded websites helped the Internet leader defy the gloom pervading the tech sector.

"Google performed well in the fourth quarter, despite an increasingly difficult economic environment. Search query growth was strong, revenues were up in most verticals, and we successfully contained costs," said Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google. "It's unclear how long the global downturn will last, but our focus remains on the long term, and we'll continue to invest in Google's core search and ads business as well as in strategic growth areas such as display, mobile, and enterprise."

Google also announced today that it is planning to offer employees a voluntary, one-for-one stock option exchange. The program is currently scheduled to begin on January 29, 2009 and end on March 3, 2009, unless Google is required or opts to extend the offer period to a later date.

The company reported revenues of $5.70 billion for the quarter ended December 31, 2008, an increase of 18% compared to the fourth quarter of 2007 and an increase of 3% compared to the third quarter of 2008.

Google-owned sites generated revenues of $3.81 billion, or 67% of total revenues, in the fourth quarter of 2008. This represents a 22% increase over fourth quarter 2007 revenues of $3.12 billion and a 4% increase over third quarter 2008 revenues of $3.67 billion.

World's smallest working fuel cell

Chemical engineers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign say they've developed a working fuel cell measuring 3 millimeters across. Future versions of the tiny hydrogen-fuelled power pack could replace batteries in portable gadgets.

While batteries are used to do that today, fuel cells are able to store more energy in the same space. Even the most advanced batteries have an energy density an order of magnitude smaller than that of a hydrogen fuel tank.

Monster.com Reports Theft of User

Monster.com is advising its users to change their passwords after data including e-mail addresses, names and phone numbers were stolen from its database.

The break-in comes just as the swelling ranks of the unemployed are turning to sites like Monster.com to look for work.

The company disclosed on its Web site that it recently learned its database had been illegally accessed. Monster.com user IDs and passwords were stolen, along with names, e-mail addresses, birth dates, gender, ethnicity, and in some cases, users' states of residence. The information does not include Social Security numbers, which Monster.com said it doesn't collect, or resumes.

Monster.com posted the warning about the breach on Friday morning and does not plan to send e-mails to users about the issue, said Nikki Richardson, a Monster.com spokeswoman. The SANS Internet Storm Center also posted a note about the break-in on Friday.

USAJobs.com, the U.S. government Web site for federal jobs, is hosted by Monster.com and was also subject to the data theft. USAJobs.com also posted a warning about the breach.

AMD low-power chips headed for HP

Advanced Micro Devices on Monday released low-power and high-performance processors that will find their way into servers from Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Sun Microsystems, and Rackable Systems. The new server processors are updated versions of AMD's 45-nanometer Shanghai processor.

"When we first came to market, we brought out the standard-power (Shanghai processors) because that's where the bulk of our market is," John Fruehe, the director of business development for server and workstation products at AMD, said in an interview. "As always, we follow(ed) up fairly quickly with the HE, which are the energy-efficient models, and the SE, which are the high-performance models."

The five new low-power 45-nanometer quad-core AMD Opteron HE processors operate at 55-watt ACP, or Average CPU Power (PDF). This standard differs from Intel's Thermal Design Power, or TDP, rating.

"TDP is much more conservative," Fruehe said. "The TDP on those (HE) processors is 79 watts," he said. But the "average customer is going to see them running in the mid-40s (ACP) range," Fruehe added.

AVG Technologies, a leading developer of Internet security software, has released statistics that paint a scary picture of the way web-borne threats are developing. Unlike viruses, which make a point of being obvious and staying around for as long as they can, the primary characteristics of web infections today are stealth and transience – meaning they are secretive, short-lived, and fast-moving.

Today's online threats frequently appear briefly on an otherwise legitimate site, moving on to other sites before they can be identified and blocked. In other instances, the criminal element behind these threats simply sets up hundreds of seemingly-legitimate web sites with embedded infections, promotes them for a day or two, and then shuts them down, never to be seen again. The rate of appearance of these 'here today, gone tomorrow sites' is increasing - in just the past three months, AVG researchers have seen the average number of unique new infective sites appearing growing from 100,000-200,000 a day to 200,000-300,000 a day, a pattern that looks set to continue.

One example of a transient threat is malicious advertising – known as 'malverts'. Online criminals simply create and submit a 'malvert' to an advertising network, which then unwittingly distributes the malicious advert to hundreds of sites. Computer users clicking on these ads, or even simply exposed to them accidentally, can become infected with data-stealing spyware.

Apple Awarded Patent on Palm

Apple (AAPL) really does have a patent on multi-touch. And that could potentially be bad news for Palm (PALM), which is trying to reinvent itself with a multi-touch smartphone platform.

Specifically, the U.S. Patent Office approved Apple's patent number 7,479,949 on Jan. 20, which seems to include many of the multi-touch controls present in Apple's iPhone and iPod touch. (More details at Apple Insider.)

This explains Apple COO Tim Cook's comments on the company's earnings call the next night: "...We will not stand for having our IP ripped off. And we will use whatever weapons that we have at our disposal. I don't know that I can be any more clear than that."

"Apple interim chief executive Tim Cook recently promised to aggressively pursue any company or person who 'rips off' Apple's intellectual property, and this patent affords the Cupertino-based iPhone maker the footing it would need to mount any such defense," Spear reports. "Along with covering the iPhone, the patent filing is notable for referencing 40 other existing patents, and for naming Jobs first among its inventors."

The potential problem for Palm: Some of the text in Apple's patent sounds a lot like what Palm is building into its new WebOS platform and Palm Pre smartphone. Especially, as a commenter notes, a clause about a "touch-sensitive area of the device that, unlike the touch screen, does not display visual output" -- sort of like the Palm Pre's "gesture area."

One of the main criticisms of Internet Explorer browser - except that
it is distributed directly with Windows - is support for web standards
regulated by the W3C.

The development team of Internet Explorer 8 has repeatedly stated that
the rendering engine embedded in the browser has been redesigned from
the ground up to meet this demand. However, since many sites have been
coded with the concern to be compatible with older versions of the
browser, the Redmond company has made available a feature called
Compatibility View that uses the engine of Internet Explorer 7. The
user can enable this option when surfing a website with errors
display.

The Compatibility View option is combined with an XML file,
referencing 2400 to date websites that problems arise with the new
rendering engine of Internet Explorer 8. Among them we find, among
others, Google.com, Yahoo.com, Amazon.com, ebay.com, but also
Apple.com Live.com, MSN.com and Microsoft.com same. Last month, the
publication of the Release Candidate of Internet Explorer 8, Microsoft
has proposed to download a list of sites in question for users of
Windows XP and Windows Vista.

For several months, Microsoft invites web developers to revise the
code of their websites or to add a tag that will add to the list of
sites listed as not compatible. Some advocates of web standards
criticize this practice and believe that if some sites were poorly
coded, it is precisely because previous versions of Internet Explorer.

For now, it appears that Microsoft has decided not to activate the
compatibility mode by default, or embed the list of sites not
